FREE SCHOOL MEALS

All children in reception, year 1 or year 2 at a state funded school are now entitled to a universal free school lunch.  This does not apply to children in school nursery classes unless they are eligible for free school meals for income reasons.

However, parents of infants who might be entitled are still strongly encouraged to apply for free school meals because it enables their school to access additional funding which is used to provide additional support to improve access to learning. It may also, depending upon individual school policies, give parents access to help with uniform costs or the cost of school trips for example.
